About

Active Resilience

Active Resilience exists to provide practical, evidence-based physical activity information. For clinicians, the goal is to provide resources that meet the high standards of evidence and safety that are required to support physical activity counselling and prescription. For users, the the purpose of the activity programs and other resources is to provide practical information that answers common questions, and provides clear plans to effect meaningful improvements in health, performance, pain and injury.

New research into the health effects of physical activity, how exercise affects performance, and how pain and injury can best be managed, is being continuously published. While efforts are made to incorporate the most relevant and high quality research into the Active Resilience resources, it remains a human endeavour, with all the shortcomings that entails.

Active Resilience is developed and managed by me, Jack Heggen.

With degrees in Exercise Science, Applied Science, and Physiotherapy, I am currently living and practicing in Geelong, Australia. As a clinician, I care about providing quality care and information to the people I work with. In my practice I had found that it was sometimes challenging to succinctly communicate physical activity recommendations, both as treatment and as something that should be continued after a course of care. It is my hope that Active Resilience makes this task easier for myself and other clinicians.

While working on Active Resilience I have been supported by friends, family, and my amazing partner. Thanks for modelling for exercise videos, proof-reading content, and patiently listening as I try to explain to you why I'm spending so much time learning to edit PDFs and websites.

Professionally, I manage a range of musculoskeletal complaints. From ligament sprains and muscle strains, to neuropathic pain and chronic pain conditions.

Outside of work you might find me practicing what I preach on a running trail, or in my home gym. Alternatively, I might be enjoying a good film, getting competitive over a card-game, or trying to keep my newly planted herb and citrus garden alive.
